Why Le Mont High School?
Is LMH an IB school or a CIE school?
LMH offers the CIE curriculum through Grade 6 to 10th, and is in the process of offering the IBDP for the Grades 11th and 12th.
What does an international curriculum school offer students that CBSE & ICSE schools do not?
- A comprehensive program with inter relatedness between different subjects and themes
- Opportunity to engage in structured, purposeful inquiry thus helping students to construct their own learning and understanding
- Develop a deep understanding of important and enduring concepts
- Conduct research into knowledge which has local and global significance
- Ability to relate classroom learning to real life situations and apply it in the here & now to bring about immediate change in own life & environment
- Acquire and practice a range of essential disciplinary and trans disciplinary skills
- Be encouraged to develop positive attitudes towards learning, the environment & other people
- Have the opportunity for involvement in responsible action and community service
- Develop independent thinking, yet appreciating that people with different views could also be right
- International mindedness by getting exposed to other world languages, cultures and practices, yet remain rooted in one’s own
- To become an informed participant in world affairs
But this holds true for all International schools right? Then why Le Mont High School?
Every school promises OVERALL development of their children. The real question is HOW do they intend to achieve this? Life Skills cannot be developed through text books. It is only experiential learning that inculcates such skills and values. LMH purports to do this through the following:
- Manchester City Football
- Nick Faldo Golf
- Sir Steve Redgrave for Rowing
- Hockey Australia
- Space edutainment park powered by USSRC NASA
- Hollywood and Bollywood themed parks
- First-hand learning’s of running an in-house industry - Bamboosa
Not just blackboard learning? But surely the school has class rooms, doesn’t it?
The school has subject specific rooms and the students move around to the subject rooms for their respective lessons. This makes the whole environment of the subject room a learning center, be it the walls, the displays and the ambience of the room.
Do you have an entrance exam?
At LMH we believe an entrance exam is discriminatory as the usual practice is to reject students on the basic subject scores. We firmly believe that each child has an innate capability to excel in some field. As educators it is our responsibility to identify the skill and talent of each child and groom them according to their potential. Therefore, we only conduct an interview and a prognostic test to identify their skill at the time of admission.
How is the student assessed at the end of the academic year?
At LMH we have a yearlong continuous differentiated assessment to gauge the learning outcome of the students. Majority weightage is given to such continuous assessment and there maybe a 20% weightage for the end-of-year examination, at the discretion of department heads.
Examinations at the end of IB DP program are conducted by the IB Research Unit presently based out of Cardiff, UK. All IB schools around the world conduct examinations simultaneously choosing one of the two examination cycles, May or November. Each school is assigned approved IB Examiners based in different parts of the world for different subjects. Grading is done based on criterion referencing and moderation is done by the Cardiff Office. Assessment is based on student’s actual learning, understanding and interpretation of a topic and not merely on memory recall ability. The Final grade is not merely the achievement score of the end of the program examination but is a combination of the student’s project work and performance through the two years of the DP program + the final examination. There are two kinds of assessments:
Formative
- Teacher assessments
- Internal IB assessments (taken at school, scored externally)
Summative
- External examinations (taken at school, scored externally)
What about sports at Le Mont High School?
Le Mont High has a tie-up with Underdog Sports Solutions which is run by Ritwik Bhattacharya (5 times national squash champion) and John Chandy. This outfit does do end to end sports management for us. Through their Balanced Report Card Program, each child will be individually assessed for their sporting abilities based on a complete physical analysis and skill assessment.
A report card will be generated every 2 months which will be shared with parents to keep them updated about their child’s progress. Further, if a student shows exceptional talent in a sport, he/she will be professionally trained to be able to pursue it seriously by providing him with intensive professional training and support and counseling to avail scholarships on their sporting merits at Universities both in India and abroad.
What about the emotional requirements of my child whilst studying in a residential school?
We understand that studying in a residential school is emotionally demanding on the students. In order to make them as comfortable as possible, each teacher at Le Mont has pastoral duties, wherein the teacher will take care of our students, and address all his/her emotional needs. To support this we have a dedicated team of house parents.
What are the residential facilities that Le Mont High will provide for my child?
In order to encourage sharing as well as ensure comfort, students share their rooms with just one other friend and every room has an attached bathroom. This ensures that the student’s basic comforts are met. Le Mont High has employed the services of Max Security, a world-renowned Israel-based security solutions agency, for the safety and security of the students.
Le Mont High School is a new school?
Yes. Le Mont High will be starting its first academic year from August 2011. Though the building, the hostels, the sports facilities, the cafeteria are new, the hands that built and run the school are experienced. The school is powered by Educomp - India’s largest education company with presence across the entire education life cycle. It reaches 15 million students across 26000 schools through the delivery of ICT education and its flagship product 'Smart Class'.
